To start off UNO’s fall semester, we have “DOLEFUL,” a photographic exhibition by Jeff Rinehart. Mr. Rinehart follows the ideology written by Pavel Vancat:
The question of what photography is and what it may potentially become has been a reoccurring theme in many ways since the origins of the medium, and it reoccurs so often, unswervingly and unambiguously, that its inherit semi-transparency turns this very questioning upside down. It’s as if photography could be almost everything we dare to wish.If we consider the inter-war avant-garde’s reduction of photographic language into simple forms as the starting point for Modernist photography, we can see of late a similar, but opposite tendency: instead of the classical notion of “capturing”, many artists deconstruct photography only to reassemble it again, while changing, questioning or even re-establishing its original contents and meaning.
This show runs from September 14 to October 6, with an opening reception Saturday, September 14, from 6-9 PM.
This fall, regular gallery hours will be Saturdays and Sundays, from 12-5 p.m.The UNO St. Claude Gallery is located at 2429 St. Claude Ave.
